Announcing Fawmpilation Vol. 3

The FAWM CD3 listening committee is pleased to (finally) announce the songs that will represent the FAWM 2007 experience on this year’s compilation. It was a tough job: we listened to over 80 great tracks (more than 4.5 hours of music!) and had to narrow it down to a mere fraction of that. Wow! Here also is a sneak peak at this year’s album cover art. In continuing with our tradition of using images from emerging and prominent visual artists, this year’s compilation features the work of Nicolas Lampert.

Congratulations to the artists above represented on this year’s compilation. And many, many thanks to all you fawmers who submitted your music for consideration. We couldn’t have done it without everyone. It was a tough selection process, but very fun and enjoyable, too… We look forward to hearing more new tunes this coming February!

If you’re interested in how the selection process went down, here’s a summary. The listening committee consisted of five people (three fawmers and two non-fawmers). Each took several weeks to listen to every submission “blindly” (song titles but no artist info), and then submit a 14-20 track compilation to represent their taste and interpretation of the FAWM experience. They also provided ratings for each song on their list (normalized to 1-5 stars) which were summed among all the listener’s lists for an overall score out of 25. (Interestingly enough, no one song made all five lists, and this process only narrowed the pool by half. Like I said, we got a lot of great music this year.)

Finally, I (Burr) took these lists and scores, and sat down in a coffee-shop with Nancy (part of the committee) to curate the final list of 14 CD tracks and 7 online bonus tracks. Remember that the compilation isn’t “best of” as much as it is a “document,” so Nancy and I weren’t critics as much as curators. We didn’t just take the top 14 scoring songs, but carefully considered the scores alongside equally important notions of diversity, topic, style, and the collaborative spirit of this year’s FAWM event in particular. In the end, we’re very pleased with this set of songs and are sure you will be as well!!

More info to come…

Indeed, congrats to everyone! I’m proud and grateful to have my song selected to represent the sheer awesomeness that was this year’s FAWM.

Burr, any chance we’ll get a sneak peek of the Strangle Disco Megamix?

Reading all these familiar names and song titles makes me both eager to hear the final product and nostalgic for February. What a great time that was.

Congratulations to everyone! Less than four months to go until the next FAWM!

Congrats to the selectees (is that even a word?). Several familiar tracks in the final list. Please get these pressed and sent out quick!

Now, any way of knowing if our tracks made it onto any of the 14-20 song compilations that were passed around?

Resonance’s “I’m Going Home” is such a perfect closer. And it’s in darn good company.

I’ve been on a musician’s wages the past couple months - how do I win a copy? ;)
