For any fawmers who are tempted to tackle FAWM’s sister challenge for fiction, consider doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this November. The goal is to crank out a 50,000 word story in 30 days.
I did the NaNo thing back in 2003, and don’t regret it at all. (You might, if you actually read my “novel” from the event, but I don’t!) It was a great experience and, after all, it inspired me to start the FAWM challenge. Be well, my creative ones…
I’m doing it for the third time this year (did 80,000 words in 2005 and 90,000 words in 2006.) Am I crazy? Yes.
Danish school teachers must be able to allot more free time than American graduate students…
Good luck, Tim!
dang. i was gonna try to do it this year. but i’m swamped. maybe i’ll try to write 4000 words over the weekend.
my rural alaska schoolteaching job is not providing the not-promised free time…
I’m doing wrisomifu, the nano for underachievers.
Jen and I are both doing it this year. Jen has done Nano the last two years making this her third time. This will be my first time, so we’ll see how it goes.
In a touching “circle of life” moment, one of my fellow reviewers over at residentmediapundit who has always meant to write a novel is doing NaNoWriMo because of the joy and discipline I got from FAWM.
So NaNoWriMo inspired Burr to create FAWM which inspired someone to NaNo…
I tried NaNo last year and got to 10,000 ish words… but I got stuck, and the novel was shelved. I do better at music. In fact I’ve already come up with the titles for my FAWM 2008 tracks… more details in the above URL.
NaNo was actually what lead me to FAWM in the first place and the win definitely gave me confidence to attempt FAWM! I’m 30K into my second novel and loving it
This will be my 6th year of participating in NaNoWriMo. It’s a great way to get a first draft written.
